Objective
We were tasked with showcasing the creative and technical processes behind Blind’s iconic user interface designs, demonstrating this highly specialised storytelling language established for some of cinema’s most enduring franchises.
More than just ‘cool stuff’, each element is always rooted in service of the story,
getting the audience up to speed, and keeping them in the heart of the action.
What we wrote
MISSION : IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT 2018
Our ‘Mission’: to concept, design, and deliver over 100 user interface motion
graphics shots for post production combining crystal clear storytelling with grounded
reality and the latest spy-tech.
The opening mission briefing scene: a finely balanced combination of classic 60’s
spycraft and modern infographics, respecting the production design’s grounded tone
while bringing the audience quickly up to speed.
Extensive real world interface research informed every design. Mask maker screens
reference current face scanning tech, while mapping and decryption concepts used
infographics and geo data design to bring consistency and variety across different
scenes.
Helicopter HUD shots mimicked exact physics, aeronautics and real world displays
while matching every onscreen action perfectly.
The handheld countdown timer was meticulously animated to the frame to ensure
continuity matched up precisely with the second timer across the final sequences.
Striking the right balance of show and tell for the website was no easy task. Luckily
TMCM were more than up to the challenge.
A great collaboration!
