‘Nice’ is the sort of word I’d like to send to the scrapheap. It’s our go-to word for anything positive, yet it’s indescribable. What do people actually mean when they say nice? Is it ‘wow, that’s amazing and totally blew my socks off’? Or is it ‘yeah, it’s all right but don’t expect me to remember it this time tomorrow’?
This uncertain clarity got me thinking. Surely there are hundreds of synonyms we could use to express the true meaning of ‘nice’. And there are. (But I stopped at one hundred – I didn’t want to over do it.)
